North Carolina has a large selection of beautiful parks, lakes, walking trails and gardens to bring you closer to nature and let you enjoy the Carolina blue skies. In search of culture?  There are wonderful museums to visit, plays to see, and music to listen to. Below are links to some of the local parks and attractions in the area, including sports teams.

CHAPEL HILL

Ackland Art Museum - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Chapel Hill Museum - There are currently 12 exhibits of different scope and size. The two main exhibit halls feature changing exhibits on about a 6 week to 2 month cycle. Visitation grew to over 20,000 a year and the education programs benefit over 2000 local students per year.

Morehead Planetarium - At Morehead Planetarium and Science Center you can experience dazzling multimedia star shows, varied exhibits, year-round programming for all ages and stellar shopping at the Infinity Gift Shop.

DURHAM

Museum of Life & Science - Durham - The Museum of Life and Science is committed to lifelong learning, and achieves this by fostering education through interaction within our engaging campus and hands-on exhibits.

Bennett Place Museum - Today James Bennett's reconstructed farmhouse, kitchen, and smokehouse recall the lifestyle of an ordinary Southern farmer during the Civil War.

Nasher Museum of Art -  The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University opened its new building designed by architect Rafael Viñoly on October 2, 2005, creating a major new center for the arts on campus. The museum serves the university, Research Triangle area and surrounding region with exhibitions and educational programs that foster multidisciplinary learning.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Science - the Museum's mission is to educate the people of North Carolina as a natural sciences museum concentrating on collecting and preserving the state's biological diversity, promoting environmental awareness, and relating the natural sciences to everyday life.

Mallarme Chamber Players - Mallarmé Chamber Players is a nationally acclaimed Durham-based ensemble of twenty-five professional musicians, performing in mixed ensembles of three to seven artists.

North Carolina Symphony - The North Carolina Symphony is a full-time, professional orchestra with 68 members. With its home in Raleigh, North Carolina's spectacular Meymandi Concert Hall, the symphony performs about 60 concerts a year in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary metropolitan area.

Raleigh Chamber Music Guild - Promoting and presenting chamber music in the greater Raleigh area.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, a 13,900 acre reservoir with 150 miles of shorline, consists of nine recreational areas.

Jordan Lake State Park - Imagine relaxing in a cove, listening to the sounds of water rippling. Then, you feel a firm tug on your fishing line. It's going to be a big one!

DURHAM

Eno River State Park - Dedicated to conserving and protecting the nature, culture, and history of the Eno River basin since 1966.

Duke Forest at Duke University - The Duke Forest comprises 7,050 acres of land in Alamance, Durham and Orange counties. Its six divisions are fully accessible through a network of roads and fire trails. A variety of ecosystems, forest cover types, plant species, soils, topography and past land use conditions are represented within its boundaries.

RALEIGH

William B. Umstead State Park - Tucked between the growing cities of Raleigh, Cary, Durham and the corporate world of Research Triangle Park is an oasis of tranquility, a peaceful haven.

WAKE FOREST 

Falls Lake - With a 12,000-acre lake and 26,000 acres of woodlands, Falls Lake State Recreation Area offers a choice of recreation areas. Fishing, boating and swimming are only a few of the activities awaiting you on the water. On land, you can enjoy walking, mountain biking or camping along a portion of the state's Mountains-to-Sea Trail.

North Carolina Botanical Garden - The North Carolina Botanical Garden is a "conservation garden." Our guiding mission is to inspire understanding, appreciation, and conservation of plants in gardens and natural areas and to advance a sustainable relationship between people and nature.

The Sarah P. Duke Gardens - The Sarah P. Duke Gardens, often spoken of as the "Crown Jewel of Duke University," occupies 55 acres in the heart of the University's West Campus, adjacent to Duke University Medical Center.

RALEIGH

JC Raulston Arboretum - The JC Raulston Arboretum is a nationally acclaimed garden with one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the Southeast. Plants especially adapted to Piedmont North Carolina conditions are collected and evaluated in an effort to find superior plants for use in southern landscapes.

North Carolina Zen Center - The North Carolina Zen Center is located on 15 acres of wooded land south of Chapel Hill North Carolina. It offers a secluded and peaceful environment for the study and practice of Zen.

North Carolina State Fairgrounds - A variety of events held throughout the year including the North Carolina State Fair.

PITTSBORO

Carnivore Preservation Trust -CPT is a wildlife sanctuary, providing homes to carnivores in need of rescue and educating the public about what threatens these animals: in the wild, in the pet trade, and in the entertainment industry.

NEW HILL

New Hope Valley Railway - Come experience the thrill of riding the rails - see, hear, and feel history.  The New Hope Valley Railway at the North Carolina Railroad Museum has monthly ride days in season from May to December, with activities, themes, and events for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
